Marking thought and talk in New Testament Greek: new light from linguistics on the particles ἵνα and ὅτι

SimMarkingThoughtAndTalkI have just added Margaret Sim’s 2011 book, Marking Thought and Talk in New Testament Greek: New Light from Linguistics on the Particles ἵνα and ὅτι to the online bibliography.

She presents a new analysis of ἵνα and ὅτι using Relevance Theory. The book is a further development of her doctoral dissertation completed in 2006 at the University of Edinburgh under the title “A relevance theoretic approach to the particle ʻína in Koine Greek.”

It’s wonderful that Wipf & Stock Pub can offer this volume for only $27!

  1. Your bibliography page seems to have text encoding windows-1252 and therefore at least with my browser the greek text is nonsense: “Bailey, Nicholas Andrew. “Thetic Constructions in Koine Greek, with special attention to clauses with εἰμί ‘be’, γίνομαι ‘occur’, ἔρχομαι ‘come’, ἰδοῦ/ἴδε ‘behold’, and complement clauses of ὀράω ‘see.’” Doctoral Thesis. Amsterdam: Vrije Universiteit, 2009.” etc. The blog has text encoding UTF-8 as it should be.

    1. Actually there’s no encoding and the browser uses some default, which may be UTF8 or something else. That’s why the problem has gone unnoticed.

      1. Thank you very much, Eeli. I can’t imagine how the character encoding got deleted (though I obviously have to be the person who did it). The line of code was missing completely, as you noted. I’ve reentered the line <meta charset="UTF-8"/>, so it should work properly for you now.
